Getting Married at St. John's

Couples planning to marry should check first with the Diocese where they plan to celebrate their wedding to familiarize themselves with the guidelines and Pre-Cana preparation timeline specific to that Diocese. In general, you should allow about 8-12 months planning time.

Couples wishing to marry at St. John's should contact Shawn Reeves to begin planning and to make an appointment with a priest. Couples are eligible to wed at St. John's if they are current students of UIUC or Parkland College or have left the St. John's community within the past two years.  Former students who participated in FOCUS or Koinonia or served as an RA, sacristan, choir director, or any other leadership role are also eligible to return to wed at St. John's beyond the two year limit.  At least one party must be Catholic, and both must be eligible for marriage in the Catholic Church according to local and canonical guidelines.  Preparation for weddings in which one or both parties require a declaration of nullity (annulment) will not proceed until said declaration of nullity is pronounced and verified.

Natural Family Planning

A four-part course for engaged and married couples that provides information on the practice of achieving, spacing, and avoiding pregnancy based on awareness of individual fertility cycles. NFP is a method congruent with Catholic moral teaching and is approved by the Church.
