The following is a brief list of the planned features of the new addition:
Amenities & Features
- All-brick exterior, designed to match the existing Newman Hall and St. John's Chapel. Consideration was given to Fr. John O'Brien's original vision of a "Benedictine college within a college.
- Student rooms - The new rooms have been designed to offer the latest preferences in college housing - while still maintaining the close knit community aspect of Newman Hall that makes us so popular. All rooms with have semi-private bathrooms. Several room layouts will offer students a variety of living options:
- Single bedrooms
- Double bedrooms
- Suite-style rooms: shared or single bedrooms that share a living room and bathroom
- In-room amenities including cable television, internet access, and phone
- Wireless internet connectivity throughout the building
- Spacious floor lounges, computer lab, TV lounge, and study/social lounges throughout resident floors
- "Newman Club" space for non-residents offering a TV/study lounge, fireplace, casual seating and entry off of Sixth Street
- Expanded cafeteria serving market-style meals: a variety of food stations including brick oven pizza, roisserie meats, deli bar and expresso counter. Small tables, booths, and private dining rooms will be surrounded by glass with open views of Sixth Street.
- An intimate Café area will be the perfect spot for a quiet snack, a coffee break, or evening conversation by the corner fireplace
- Convenience Store featuring typical sundries, express food & beverage items, Catholic goods, books, SJCNC apparel, etc.
- Laundry and fitness center facilities in the basement
- Multiple meeting/conference rooms of varying size including choir rehearsal space

Main building
This view is looking South from the corner of Chalmers and Sixth Street. You can just see the Chapel steeple at the far right. Note the tower and cross above the tallest wing: this will be the highest structure within several blocks, clearly identifying St. John's Catholic Newman Center. The entrance to the left, below the tallest wing will serve as the main entrance to the Center from the North.

Cafeteria
The largest open space in the new building will serve the residents and non-resident community three high quality meals per day. The traditional 'buffet line' has been replaced with modern 'market-style food stations' offering a variety of food choices. A mix of ceramic tile, carpet, and glass will make the space very open, bright and inviting.

Fitness Center The Fitness Center is meant to provide a conveniently accessible location for students who wish to stay fit.

Laundry Facilities The new laundry facilities are sized to accommodate the larger student population.

Convenience Store Conveniently accessible within in the new dorm is a convenience store, providing common items such as deodorant, tissue paper, school supplies, and other essential items.

Newman Club The Newman Club will provide a gathering area for both residents and non-residents.
 
Dorm room The dorm rooms have been designed around criteria coming from current and past students, as well as industry trends in the campus housing sector.
