Lenten Opportunities for Prayer

 

  • Personal Prayer is available in the Main Chapel at Sixth & Armory daily from 8:00 AM to 10:00 PM
  • Adoration is available at 4:00 PM Monday-Friday and at 9:00 PM Wednesdays
  • Reconciliation is available at 4:00 PM daily (Monday-Sunday)

     
  • Stations of the Cross take place at 5:30 PM Fridays in Lent in the Main Chapel
     
  • Stations of the Cross WORKOUT, Fridays at 7:00 AM

    14 exercises, 14 Stations of the Cross. Join us for the Stations of the Cross workout and grow closer to Christ by experiencing the fatigue, effort, and sweat that Our Lord suffered for us in his Passion and Death. Meet at the Armory St. courtyard entrance at 7:00 AM. Open to all - no matter where you live on campus.
     

  • Living Stations of the Cross, Good Friday, March 29 at 12:00 PM
    Meet behind Foellinger Auditorium on the Main Quad to join in this beautiful witness to Christ's Passion and Death. Living Stations will begin behind Foellinger Auditorium and continue counterclockwise around the Quad. Meet up at 11:45 AM on the Chapel steps, or at 12:00 PM behind Foellinger.
     
  • Go on Retreat
    The Catholic Illini February Retreat takes place Friday, February 23-Sunday, February 25.

  • Marian Consecration, March 6-April 8
    Marian Consecration means giving ourselves entirely to Jesus through Mary. It is a time for us to make ourselves more holy, sharing in Jesus’ salvific work in our life. Learn more and register.
     
  • Tenebrae Service, Wednesday, March 27 at 8:00 PM
    Tenebrae is a beautiful reflection on the death of Christ as we prepare for the Sacred Triduum. This moving prayer service consists of a series of readings and psalms. The chapel is also gradually darkened representing the darkness brought on by sin which will be vanquished Saturday night by the “Light of Christ.”
     
  • Adoration at the Altar of Repose, Holy Thursday, March 28 from 9:00 PM to midnight
    Pray with Jesus at the Altar of Repose, located in Lewis Lounge, Holy Thursday evening following the Mass of the Lord's Supper until midnight.

 

Lenten Opportunities for Fellowship

 

  • Lenten Small Group
    Small Groups are a chance to rest and re-center, a chance to find an outlet, and a chance to find encouragement and spiritual nourishment for the week. Lenten Small Groups meet Monday through Thursday nights at 8:00 PM. Learn more and register.
     
  • Walking The Way  Today
    Come for an evening of dinner and reflections from fellow Catholic Illini students on how the Stations of the Cross relate to our lives today. Four Friday nights: February 16, 23, and March 1, and 22. 6:16-7:15 in Elson Dining Room.
     
  • Dinner with Dudes, Tuesday nights at 6:00 PM
    Dinner with Dudes is a great night of (free!) dinner, fella-ship, and conversation about growing as men of God, hosted every Tuesday night at 6:00 PM in the Newman Hall Dining Room.
     
  • Ladies Nights
    Ladies Night is a great night of (free!) dinner and conversation about living as beloved daughters of God. Meet in the Chapel at 5:45 PM on select Thursday nights: February  29; March 7 and 21; and April 4 and 18.
     
Lenten Opportunities for Almsgiving

 

  • Volunteer at or donate to the Newman Shares Food Pantry. Visit bit.ly/newmanshares 
     
  • Donate packages of toilet paper for CU at Home, a local non-profit that supports people seeking to take steps out of homelessness. Donation boxes are in the vestibule of St. John's Chapel.
     
  • Donate individually packaged kid snacks (like animal crackers, goldfish, fruit snacks, etc.) for the Crisis Nursery center, serving at-risk children in the county. Donation boxes are in the vestibule of St. John's Chapel.
